Scarlet Key Society

Academics are the heart of the student experience, but extracurricular activities are the soul. Recipients of the Scarlet Key Award, or Keys, are automatically inducted into the Society and invited to events throughout the year. Our mission is to promote student leadership at McGill. Scarlet Key events connect our network of accomplished McGill alumni to current students.

How you can stay connected

Think you have what it takes to be a Key? Know someone who does?

The McGill Scarlet Key Society has been recognizing excellence in student leadership for a century. Each year, the Scarlet Key is awarded to student leaders who go above and beyond what is expected of them, showing outstanding dedication to their community and their peers. On the recommendation of the Society and in celebration, new Keys are recognized by McGill at an annual awards ceremony.

The application period for 2023-2024 is now open! Applications are due by Sunday, February 11, 2024. On the recommendation of the Society, new Keys will be recognized by President Deep Saini at a ceremony to be held on March 20, 2024.

All eligible candidates are encouraged to apply here.

Eligible candidates:

  • Are McGill students who have completed at least one year of full-time studies with satisfactory results or are a McGill graduate.
  • Have demonstrated excellence, leadership, dedication and perseverance.
  • Have taken on a significant project that has had a positive impact.

Applications based on paid positions or academic interests will be considered only if the other minimum requirements have been met. In addition to the online application form, candidates are required to submit two reference letters to scarletkey.alumni@mcgill.ca.
