Women at an MWAA event

McGill Women’s Mentorship Program

The McGill Women’s Mentorship Program, an initiative of the McGill Women’s Alumnae Association (MWAA), is a way to build bridges within the McGill alumnae community. This program will directly support the MWAA’s mission to contribute to excellence in educational achievement, lifelong learning, and the improvement of the community at large.

Launched in 2021, the mentorship program connects McGill alumnae in Montreal who are seeking guidance, feedback, or a new perspective, with an alumna mentor. Our objective is to provide both mentors and mentees with the opportunity and tools to make meaningful connections and thrive in their professional lives.

The mentorship program requires a six-month commitment, though mentors and mentees are welcome to continue the mentorship beyond that period independent of organizational oversight. Mentors are required to meet with their mentees approximately once per month.

What is a mentor?

A mentor is a good listener, a provider of constructive advice and a resource who helps pave the way to success and derives satisfaction from helping others succeed. The role of the mentor is to inspire, encourage and support their mentee, and to contribute to their:

  • Professional development, guiding them in goal setting, career preparation, networking, and other aspects of their professional lives.
  • Personal development, providing insight on navigating personal development issues, ranging from building emotional intelligence to managing work-life balance.
